Near the end of every year, there’s an announcement made that event planners, couples planning their wedding, and designers are all very eager to hear: Pantone’s Color of the Year. This announcement sets the stage for that particular color appearing in clothing, décor, food, and especially weddings.
Pantone’s Color of 2019 is living coral—a color that is many things. It’s energetic yet warm, vibrant, and full of life. This makes it absolutely perfect for weddings. Besides this, it also goes well with so many other colors. Depending on what it’s paired with, it can be played up to be more romantic, upscale and chic, incredibly beachy, or rustic. Its golden undertone allows it to look gorgeous with gold, cream, softer pinks, sherbet colors, magenta, pale teal, sand, ivory, pale green, and very pale gray.
If you’re currently planning your wedding and you’re considering incorporating Pantone’s living coral, take a look at our tips below on how to utilize it in your wedding décor, food, attire, and florals.
Décor
For draperies and linens such as curtains, table runners, and chair sashes, living coral gives off a sweet, no-fuss vibe. It’s utterly stylish, yet feels effortless. Long, trailing ribbons in peach, apricot, and coral tones will be stunning.

And if you’ll be using flowers in your décor, such as floral archways, backdrops, centerpieces, or floral pew ends, living coral-toned flowers create a bright pop of color that’s both inviting and dazzling.

Tables
Living coral is a perfect wedding color because you can either go wild with it or use it only minimally, and both work beautifully. Because it’s a powerful yet friendly color, it can literally “drench” everything and still look amazing, but you can also choose to simply sprinkle small living coral details in for a more paired-down look.
So you can feel free to use living coral plates, flatware, napkins, table linens and runners—everything! Or, you can combine living coral elements with other colors to get the style you want.

Flowers
As mentioned before, living coral works very well in flowers, complimenting other colors gorgeously. Miss Piggy roses are an obvious choice, but there are many others to choose from, such as peach snapdragons, orange roses, flamenco trumpet vines, labyrinth dahlias, flame calla lilies, and nora barlow columbines.

Food
Living coral also looks fabulous on your menu! If you really want to go all the way with this color and even incorporate it into your food, it will probably mostly be incorporated in your sweets, such as donuts, macrons, and/or cupcakes.

However, it can also be used in savories such as smoked salmon or lox, or a fancy charcuterie featuring prosciutto.

Attire
As mentioned before, one of the best things about living coral is that it works both as a main color and as a secondary color for accents. For example, this means that if you decide to put your bridesmaids in head-to-toe living coral, it will look dazzling. However, if they wear navy blue dresses wear living coral-colored jewelry and accessories, that will look fantastic as well. It just depends on how much living coral you want to incorporate.
Note that living coral also works very well as an ombré, which means your bridesmaids will look truly beautiful in varying degrees of coral, peach, rose, and pink.
For the guys, a touch of living coral in their suits will go very far. It can be incorporated into their suspenders, ties, bow ties, socks, or boutonnieres.
